The Synergy Studio and The Esther Vexler Yoga School welcome Judith Lasater to San Antonio!

We are excited to host two days with Judith: Friday, February 26th and Saturday, February 27th. You may sign up for one or both days. Following is a description of the entire 2-day workshop.

Friday, February 26th : The Sacroiliac Joint - Anatomy, Asana and Therapeutics

Description: Many practitioners of yoga, both novice and teacher alike, have had problems with their sacroiliac joint. What poses can make this better? Worse? This day for teachers and serious students will include anatomy, movement principles, therapeutics and applied asana practice to help us all teach and practice with more knowledge and compassion.

Level: teachers and experienced students
Required text: Yogabody: Anatomy, Kinesiology and Asana by Judith Hanson Lasater, Ph.D., PT
Hours: 10:00am - 12:30pm and 1:30pm- 4:00 pm

Saturday, February 27th: Living Your Yoga

What we do "on the mat" is given perspective by how we live our lives off the mat. In this workshop we will use short discussion from the Yoga Sutra, active asana practice, as well as restorative yoga, pranayama and meditation to create a juicy and livable practice to take home.

Level: All Levels
Hours: 10:30am- 1:00pm and 1:30pm- 4:00 pm

The first part of the day will focus on "active practice", moving, strengthening, warming with awareness and fun. Included will be such poses as standing poses and backbends. After a short break, we will return to the mat for a "quiet" practice of meditation, pranayama and Restorative yoga. This well-rounded practice will serve to center and inspire us as we open our hearts to living well in the world.

Judith Hanson Lasater, Ph.D, and Physical Therapist and internationally-known yoga teacher, has taught yoga since 1971. She is a founder of the Iyengar Yoga Institute in San Francisco, CA, as well as Yoga Journal magazine. Ms. Lasater frequently trains teachers in virtually every state of the union and is often an invited guest at international yoga conventions. She is president of the California Yoga Teachers' Association as well as the author of numerous articles on yoga and health for nationally recognized magazines.

Judith is the author of A Year of Living Your Yoga , Yoga Abs, Yoga for Pregnancy: What Every Mom-to-Be Needs to Know , 30 Essential Yoga Poses: for beginning students and their teachers , Relax and Renew: restful yoga for stressful times, Living Your Yoga: finding the spiritual in everyday life, and Anatomy, Kinesiology and Asana.

IREST MEDITATION 6-WEEK SERIES WITH MARY ELLEN ROSE

I-REST Meditation is based on a 4000-year-old transformative process called "Yoga Nidra", loosely translated as "yogic sleep".

This supine meditation is a deep relaxation for body and mind that helps you to work through self-limiting beliefs and patterns to produce a pure awareness of your own being. By reducing stress, anxiety, and other negative emotions, I-REST invites you to find a true meaning of self and a sense of enlightenment.

You will be lead through breath, body and energy awareness that will help to lift the stresses of your daily and lifelong existence. This mediation is done lying down, supported by bolsters and blankets; please wear comfortable clothing..This is offered as a 6 week workshop Sundays, 5:00- 6:00 pm

Healing Sound Journey Series with Jodi Roberts

Experience a sound journey: guided imagery with a Native American perspective, Chinese gongs, and Tibetan bowls as the doorway into an experience of deepening your health. The music enables the brain to enter the theta state where all information and all possibility exist. Your body receives a sound massage for deep healing and relaxation. The journey takes you through all aspects of health-physical, mental (belief systems), emotional and spiritual. Combined with your personal intentions the music and journey balance and enhance your health and vibrancy.

Think about your personal and/or global intention before the healing event.

Jodi Roberts is a sound healing catalyst for transformation, ceremonial concert musician, and recording artist using the sound of Tibetan bowls, temple bells, and Chinese gongs to weave meditative, ceremonial experiences of peace, love, joy and Oneness. She has 20 years of experience and training in mindfulness and meditation techniques for stress reduction and creation of clear choices and actions. She is the first sound healing specialist for the Ft. Hood Army Warrior Combat Stress RESET Program in Killeen TX.

WORKSHOP IN THE ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE WITH JANE CLANTON BICK

The Alexander Technique is an experiential approach for learning how to move with dynamic ease and freedom.

Underlying all of our movements is our natural coordination and flexibility of movement. Habitual tensions create pressures and strain in our bodies. Releasing excessive tension re-establishes natural posture and coordination. This approach to "body learning" is taught through hands-on guidance and concepts of functional anatomy and movement.

The Alexander Technique is for anyone who wants to improve overall performance and gain a greater sense of ease and well-being. No prior experience is needed. The session will focus on walking, sitting, standing, and other activities that improve balance, flexibility and coordination.

    In 6 weeks we will explore Kundalini Yoga basics; breath, mantra, meditation, and yogic anatomy including the chakras and the 10 bodies. This workshop is great for those just starting a yoga practice or experienced practitioners who would like to revisit the basics!

    IYENGAR YOGA 8 WEEK SERIES WITH EMILIE ROGERS

    Iyengar Yoga is a form of Hatha Yoga which focuses on precise alignment of the physical body. It is known for its use of props such as straps, blocks, and bolsters to aid the student in doing the asanas and as support for the deep work of creating stillness of body, mind, and spirit.Based on Patanjali’s eight limbs of yoga, it emphasizes asana and is oriented towards developing strength, stamina, flexibility, and balance in the practitioner.

    The class is designed for students who would like to deepen their asana and pranayama practice and begin a study of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. Level 1-2 Inversions, Backbends, Standing and Seated Asana will be practiced.

    FINDING YOUR VOICE: A NIA SOUNDING PLAYSHOP

    Movement is born in stillness. Words are born in silence. Join us for an exploration of the voices of the body as a means to express and experience your own authentic, embodied voice. In every Nia class, we use sound as a means of engaging the core, of letting the bones speak, of intensifying the five sensations -- strength, stability, agility, flexibility and mobility - and of transformation. This workshop is designed to help students find their individual voice and to blend with the voices of the community.
